Kate and Francis met at work in NYC in 2016. Although they worked in different divisions of the company, their friend group overlapped. The two hit it off as friends instantly, which quickly turned into a first date! “In 2020 we moved to our beloved loft apartment in Brooklyn and have shared many milestones, highs and lows, career pivots, and more since.”
Francis proposed to Kate at the Met Cloisters in 2022, orchestrating the surprise with a fake lunch plan. He picked her outfit for the day and on the way played Abbey Road, her favorite album. Kate noted, “I should’ve known something was up.” As they explored the gardens listening to an audio tour, Kate suddenly heard her name: “Kate. Yes, you. Kate Powers.” The voice revealed Francis had something important to ask. She turned around to find him on one knee, surrounded by blooming flowers and fluttering butterflies.
When it came time to tour wedding venues, Kate and Francis were captivated by the breathtaking natural beauty of The Estate at River Run. Opting for an autumnal color scheme, the decor featured natural wood, glass, and linen elements. Fun decorative elements were incorporated using a longtime couple nickname, Frate Train (a blend of their names which is always accompanied by a “woo woo!” and honking motion), into their wedding décor with a custom train-themed illustration on matchboxes, napkins, and signage. But the most meaningful moment came during their ceremony. As Francis’s father honored absent loved ones, including Francis’s late brother, Nick, a hawk soared overhead. Around the same moment, a train passed by, blowing its horn—a sign that Nick was there in spirit. Without hesitation, the couple and several guests did the “woo woo!” sound with arm signal.
Following the ceremony, they threw an incredible party, complete with a live band! Kate and Francis wanted to be out on the dance floor as long as possible. Since the wedding, the couple has expanded their family, welcoming a baby girl in September 2024!
