How did you get started in this business?
Right after I graduated from Radford University in 2012 with a degree in Marketing, I applied for a Mortgage Consultant job back home in Richmond, VA. I knew I wanted to be involved in the real estate business and quickly landed a position on the financing side of things. In 2012, rates were at an all-time historic low so most of my business was focused on helping people save money by refinancing their current mortgages. In 2014, I switched over to primarily working on the purchase side of the business. I quickly developed a wonderful network of realtors and industry partners who were in need of a trustworthy mortgage lender.

What’s your favorite wedding story?
Well, mine of course!! From the time I started dating my husband, at the time boyfriend, I knew we were meant to be. But my wedding story started with an over-the-top surprise engagement- with 50 of our closest family and friends waiting for us upstairs at James River Cellars, to our dream wedding day at Dover Hall- our story was nothing short of enchanting.

Why do you like working with weddings?
I LOVE working with engaged or newlywed couples because not only are they celebrating their love in marriage, but they are also buying a home together for the first time. A place that they get to call their own as they take on their new chapter as a married couple.

What is the most difficult situation you have faced with a couple, and how did you resolve it?
I’d have to say that the most difficult situation I’ve faced with a couple was the couple not agreeing on the price of the home they wanted to buy. One was willing to push the budget by an additional $300 in monthly payment in order to afford a bigger home, and one was taking the more practical route by keeping their payments close to what they were used to paying in rent each month. When getting a loan on a home, you deal with someones personal financial picture to help them with the amount they can qualify for. I see this a lot- so I challenged them to start putting away an additional $300 a month for the next 6 months and to see if they still felt comfortable paying their bills while still having enough money for spending each month. Together they were dedicated to saving that money each month and quickly learned that they COULD afford an increase in payment by $300 and they closed on the perfect home just a few months later!

From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?
Put your trust in the vendors. They are the professionals. They have a lot of experience and will do everything they can to make your day as magical as it can be! Your wedding day is meant to be enjoyed and be sure that you take in every moment!

How far in advance should couples book your services?
Securing the home loan is always the most stressful part of buying a home. There is a lot involved when financing the home of your dreams. I always recommend setting up an appointment with me if you intend to buy a house, regardless of your time frame. Often times I meet with clients who want to buy a house tomorrow, and some that want to buy a house a year from now. I work with my clients, at their speed, to help them better understand the mortgage process and all that is involved.

What inspires you the most / where do you find inspiration?
WOW- I get inspired every day at work. I sometimes meet with couples, families, individuals who don’t know that home ownership is a possibility for them. From buying your first home, second home, vacation home, or investment properties…. being involved in such success stories brings me such joy! I find my inspiration by the look on my client’s faces when they are handed the keys to a new home at the closing table!

What do you like to do when you are away from work?
When I’m away from work, I love to do house projects! My husband and I just successfully flipped our first home we ever bought, while we were living there. We just bought our 2nd home where we will live for a while and have plenty of projects lined up for the new home to put our stamp on it! There’s something about taking a space and making it your own.

What would we be surprised to learn about you?
I secretly would have loved to be an event planner but I have zero creativity – my mind works in black and white which is why I enjoy numbers so much and make a great mortgage loan officer!
