Real Richmond Wedding: Angela and Brian’s Hurricane Florence Wedding
Angela and Brian
September 15, 2018
How They Met
Angela and Brian met during their time at Virginia Tech. Angela, who had a longtime crush on Brian, finally had her opportunity to ask him to dance one night at a party. Brian said no, but only because he thought she was kidding and there was “no way that she wanted to dance with me!” Angela says, “I didn’t take no for an answer and waited until he passed back by again, and he said yes!” They had their first date soon after at a restaurant in Blacksburg and the rest is history.
When Brian asked Angela to spend the rest of her life with him, she was completely taken by surprise. The two hiked Dragon’s Tooth, a path off the Appalachian Trail close to their alma mater. Brian’s two best friends tagged along and offered to take their picture at the top. As they were smiling, Brian got down on one knee. “We then proceeded to put the ring on the wrong hand!” They celebrated with champagne at the top and when they got down, both of their families and friends were waiting for a surprise party.
“We were fortunate enough to brave Hurricane Florence during our wedding day.” With threats of being one of the biggest storms Richmond had ever seen, all Angela and Brian could do was hope the meteorologists were wrong. “It poured the morning of the wedding but managed to clear up in the afternoon. The sun came out right as we began our vows!”
Their color scheme was white with touches of greenery. Angela, who loves the outdoors, wanted the day to look soft with nature weaved throughout. Her girls looked regal in all black; Brian’s guys looking just as dapper in their tuxedos.
The week leading up to their wedding was stressful, to say the least. “We were very afraid we’d have to cancel the wedding due to canceled flights, potentially losing power, closed streets, and battling 70 mph winds…I was a hot mess but it all turned out fine!” The two played the Scorpions’ song “Rock You Like a Hurricane” at their reception as their guests danced the night away.
Thanks to their great team of vendors, Hurricane Florence was no match for Angela and Brian’s big day. Angela says, “Looking back, I don’t care or remember any of the details. I only remember being so happy that my cheeks truly hurt from smiling!”
Favorite Part of the Day
“I loved hanging out with my bridesmaids all day, and I loved being in the moment during the ceremony and not thinking about anything else. It felt so magical and truly like a dream.” Angela also loved having all of their best friends and family in one room. “Especially knowing that many of those friends traveled through hurricane winds!”
Best Piece of Advice
“I spent so much time focusing on the small details of the wedding. Due to the hurricane, some items got moved or replaced and our ceremony had to move from outdoors…Looking back I don’t care or remember any of the details. All I wanted was more time at the rehearsal dinner and more time at the wedding. I did not want the day to end!”
