Sarah & Julian

How They Met + The Proposal
Sarah and Julian first met through friends at a food truck night at Hardywood in August 2014. Julian was hanging with a good neighborhood friend who happened to be meeting Sarah’s group of friends. The two were introduced and ended up talking most of the night. It didn’t take long for the two to exchange numbers and after their first date at Sticky Rice, they were official a few months later.

Their love grew over time and Julian popped the question to Sarah in November 2017 and she said, “YES!”

The Details
The inspiration for their late fall wedding was based on their color scheme of burgundy, navy, ivory, and lots of greenery. The colors were picked for a fall wedding and coordinated perfectly with the signature Virginia fall foliage. And from there, they tried to keep things simple, clean, and elegant. Sarah explains, “The engagement ring Julian proposed with has somewhat of a vintage feel, so I was also drawn to some vintage inspiration, including my hairstyle and wedding day look.” The vintage feel at their reception location, The Renaissance, helped tie in the theme.

Sarah wore her mother’s veil and the two were married in Julian’s family church, which made the day even more special. They also included their family at their reception at their dedication table that celebrated those who were not able to be with them on their big day.

Sarah and Julian did a few DIY projects including transforming old farmhouse window frames into their seating chart, generational photos, and a welcome frame. On their November night, their guests went home with a personalized coaster and bottle opener, a guest favorite.

Best Piece of Advice
Sarah says, “Keep it simple and true to who you are as a couple. It is so easy to get caught up in the small details…then on your big day, you will forget all about them. Stay on top of the to-do list, and make sure you take time away (for yourself) from planning your special day. Enlist some close family members to help you out, no matter how small the task is on your big day!”
