When selecting the caterer for your wedding, it is so important to work with a company you trust and event coordinators who can help you figure out exactly what will make your wedding dinner flow smoothly!  That’s why we’re so happy to know Lauren, the event coordinator for A Sharper Palate Catering!

Tell us a little about your company!

For over 20 years, A Sharper Palate has offered Richmond a passion for quality, a commitment to outstanding customer service and food that is fresh, delicious and well presented. No matter how big or small the event, our professional event coordinators pay meticulous attention to every detail in the planning process. From menu and beverage selection and staff placement to rental coordination, allow us to customize your reception to be a reflection of your personal taste and style.

How did you get started in this business?

Many years ago, I was asked to serve on my high school Student Affairs Committee. After serving as secretary and president, I discovered my passion for event coordination as the Activities Coordinator. During the start of college, I searched high and low for a job that would introduce to me to the exciting world of events. In August 2009, I was thrilled to find this opportunity with A Sharper Palate. During the first month, I worked a 700 person plated dinner event. The event energy and team spirit captivated me! Though I started as a receptionist, after graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University, I became a full time event coordinator with the company.

What differentiates you from other businesses in your field?

Where to begin? Our talented kitchen strives to use fresh and local ingredients whenever possible. Everything that comes from our kitchen is fresh-made down to our dressings and marinades. Our staff is incredible – many of our chefs, servers and bartenders have been with us for 2-10 years! No event is too big or small. We can do boxed lunch deliveries for 15 or staffed dinners for 1,000 — the options are endless!

Why do you like working with weddings?

With every wedding, I am continually inspired by my clients”™ different ideas. Each bride’s vision is unique, which makes for an exciting reveal on their special day when that vision is brought to life! I love a good challenge and I love change, and each wedding offers just that!

ASP 3From a vendor’s perspective, what is the one best piece of advice you can offer to engaged couples?

Ask questions and do your research! Is the caterer full service? What can they provide in terms of beverages, staffing and rentals? Is the food prepared fresh and not frozen? Will a captain whom you have met be present at the reception?

Also, make the time for tastings! Selecting a caterer is one of the largest components of your reception, and your guests will remember the experience.

What do you like to do when you are away from work?

I love finding good deals! Flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores, I”™m there! I”™m obsessed with crafting and love watching shows like Flea Market Flip. I”™m also a huge fan of anywhere with a beach and running trails.

What would we be surprised to learn about you?

My dad is a 10th degree black belt and karate teacher, so naturally I did karate for 10 years. Don’t mess with me!
