Vendor Spotlight | Matthew and Karese with Bow Tied Weddings | Wedding Planner – DJ DUO
Meet Matthew and Karese, Directors of Music and Ceremonies with Bow Tied Weddings and also ENGAGED!
If you care to share, how did you get to where you are now?
We both met as neighbors in 2015, stayed friends through the years, started dating at the beginning of the pandemic then got engaged a year later! We have now joined forces professionally and offer couples the range of wedding weekend management to full service wedding planning, coupled with professional Wedding DJ entertainment. You can read the full story on our blog: https://www.bowtiedweddings.com/blog/planner-dj-duo
What makes you or your business stand out and why should a couple hire you?
Well, for starters, not only are we the only young and fun Planner and DJ duo in the Southeast, we just got done traveling on our converted school bus to sixteen cities raising money for local food banks. Yes, we live on a Skoolie! Oh and we are planning our very own wedding as well. We have the unique ability to connect with a couple that is planning their EPIC celebration, because we are doing the same thing!
What’s your favorite thing about working in the wedding industry?
We genuinely love getting to know each and every couple (and their crew), what they like to do, how they want to party on their wedding weekend, and where they want to go on their honeymoon. We really enjoy helping a couple entertain their life’s moments.
What’s a unique tip you tell your couples?
If you can swing it, have a walkthrough at your venue, one to two months out, and invite all of your core wedding vendors (the ones that will be there all day). Make it fun and have a few drinks with your team. But also make sure everyone is on the same page with timeline and layout, so everyone is able to highlight their strengths. Who wouldn’t want your wedding team to LOVE working together?
What’s your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
Have a date night every month on the same day of the month as your wedding date. Maybe mark off some things from your checklist. If it falls on the weekend, make it a fun-filled day date!
What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?
Our favorite moment is the end of the night, during a couples’ last dance, when it’s just the two of them on the dance floor, and you can see them recalling the whole weekend of fun with their family and friends. It really is a magical moment.
If you care to share, what’s a funny/awesome story from a wedding you’ve worked?
We had an outdoor wedding that was temporarily rained out. The dance floor was soaked and the tables were soaked. No worries, we had the tables reset. The funny part was Matthew dancing to “Wipe Me Down” with towels on his feet as we wiped off the dance floor. Couples that book us place the dance party as their highest priority, so we had make sure people could dance!
How do you de-stress?
Well, we live on a school bus, so if we want to go to the beach, we go to the beach. If we want to go to the mountains, we go to the mountains. If we want to park in a walkable neighborhood full of restaurants, we go. Home is where we park it. Travel often is how we de-stress!
What would your perfect Saturday be like?
Honestly, our perfect Saturday is a large ballroom wedding with 200 people screaming at the top of their lungs, jumping up and down to their favorite song, the newlyweds in the middle having the time of their lives!
Do you love to travel? If so, what are some must-see destinations?
Is this rhetorical? Haha. Outside of our #BowTiedBus, we love taking flights to our favorite Caribbean locations. Together, we’ve been to Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica, and we have a honeymoon booked in St. Lucia. Can’t wait!
Karese has seen all of the West Coast and has been several cruises including the Caribbean and Alaska. Matthew’s been to Europe a couple times with stops in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Barcelona, Athens, and the popular honeymoon destination, Santorini. We hope to do every continent in the next 5 to 10 years!
Do you have a pet?
Yes, we have pitbull named Franklin James. He is our road dog, adventure buddy, and the sweetest boy. He loves to swim, run through fields, and make new friends. You can occasionally find him “driving” our bus!
